Rifugio Torino: the Skyway's mountain hut
Rifugio Torino (3,375 m) is run by the Turin section of the CAI (Italian Alpine Club). The original hut, built in 1898 near the cable car station, was replaced in 1952 by the current building, 55 m higher, on the south-east spur of Pointe Helbronner, with a capacity of 160. It is reached from the Skyway arrival station via two lifts and a 150 m tunnel, with no approach walk.
Val Veny: the approach valley to Gonella, Innominata and the Brenva
Val Veny is the side valley south-west of Courmayeur, shaped by the Miage and Brenva glaciers; the Miage Glacier forms a glacial lake there (Lac du Miage). It is the approach valley for the Elisabetta hut (2,195 m) and for the Italian routes on the massif's south side: the normal route via Gonella hut, the Innominata, the Brenva Face and the Peuterey Ridge.
